OpenAI will discontinue Sora AI video generation service, streamline product line to pave the way for IPO. Six months after the high-profile launch of Sora standalone application, OpenAI announced that it will discontinue the video generation service to streamline its AI product line. The ChatGPT developer made the decision ahead of a planned IPO this year to focus on enterprise-grade products. OpenAI s chief financial officer said: We must build a company that is ready to go public. OpenAI launched the Sora app at the end of September last year, promising to make it easier for users to generate and share lifelike AI videos. The free app briefly climbed to the top of Apple's App Store charts, but has since fallen back. With the closure of Sora, OpenAI will also end its collaboration with Disney announced in December. A Disney spokesperson said the media giant respects OpenAI's decision to exit the video generation business and shift its priorities to other areas.
